Ireland Elopement Planning Guide 2020
Eloping in Ireland. What can be better than eloping in another country with your love? Elopements are such a powerful and emotional experience. I personally think its the best way to get married. It completely brings back the focus to you both and your commitment to each other! They are weddings that are completely stripped down to its very core, full of emotion and raw connection. To be there to document it, is an incredible and honourable experience. I am always in awe of couples that are willing to step out of the norm and get married the way it represents them.
Eloping does not necessarily mean it has to be just the two of you, you can bring along a small group of your closest friends and family, invite them to experience a once in a lifetime adventure with you both. Saying your vows in the most beautiful landscape surround by the people who are there to fully support you and cheer you on can be an incredible experience. I can completely understand the desire to elope. Having planned my own elopement myself five years ago, I now want to help couples with theirs as well as be there to document it of course.
Ireland Elopement Celebrants
I help plan and guide couples from all over the world with their Ireland Elopement and wanted to put together a small list with some of my favourite vendors here in Ireland to help you with your elopement planning.
The first thing you should probably do once you have booked your photographer (hint….me) is look into a celebrant to marry you both. I think its super important that you find someone that is happy to hike with you to where ever you want so you can say your vows.
You may decide not to have an officiant/celebrant and do all the legal stuff beforehand and decide to say your vows to each other without one instead. Thats perfectly ok and doesn’t make your elopement day any less than. I have wrote a post about this here A GUIDE TO ELOPING IN IRELAND. But if you are looking for an awesome celebrant, than look no further! Ireland elopement planning guide 2020
Karen The Celebrant
I’m Karen, humanist wedding celebrant, kick-ass copywriter and lover of love, and I am wholeheartedly passionate about all things elopements! I’m based in Northern Ireland, the most beautiful place in my world, and I work with cute couples around the globe to create a ceremony that is solely about them and their love story. Whilst I’m willing to travel anywhere to be part of your big day, there is just no place like home! And I know that when you see the Irish coastline, you’ll surely agree.
When it comes to humanist weddings, the world is yours for the taking, but theres just something about Ireland… If you’re a little unconventional and considering a wild and free elopement on the emerald isle, I’m already in love with your love story. Your boots may get a little dusty and you will definitely need to forget the heels – but I’ll be there with you in the thick of it.
” a celebrant that just gets it”
I absolutely love weddings and, as a celebrant, I get to deal in love! How lucky am I?! My days are spent getting to know engaged couples inside out, and working with them to understand exactly what vibe they want for their ceremony. It’s my job to bring to life to the love that is already there. So, I work together with my couples to craft their unique love story, composing all of the poetic words that reflect who they truly are – not to mention the inclusion of the most beautiful symbolic rituals that add a little wow factor.
Picture an intimate ceremony that is focused on your unique love story, told by a celebrant who just ‘gets it’, on one of the world’s most beautiful coastlines, with a crazy-talented photographer in tow to capture those meaningful moments as you make a lifelong commitment to the one you love… what could be better?! I guarantee that you would find it hard to find a celebrant as earnestly invested in you and your love story as me. If you think I could be the celebrant for you, get in touch. Ireland elopement planning guide 2020
I love working with couples to give them a very, very special ceremony experience. These days couples are aware that they have a choice when it comes to their wedding ceremony so we have huge fun creating something unique, personal and meaningful. I love the fact that no two ceremonies are the same – different venues, different content. One of my couples is having their dog as ring bearer, another couple is having a Disney theme, another is getting married in a castle … never a dull moment!
I became a celebrant because I was looking for a new challenge. My background is in theatre as an actress, writer and director and, while it may not seem obvious, the work of a celebrant is not so far removed from that. I use all the skills and experience of my work in the arts to create ceremonies that get people talking, that people remember. The ceremony is the most important part of the day, after all – it’s the reason we’re all there in the first place – so it should be memorable.
As a writer I know how to construct a script that keeps everyone’s interest, as a director I can ‘stage’ the ceremony so that everyone knows exactly what to do on the day and as an actress I love conducting the ceremony so that everyone feels relaxed and enjoys the day.

MUA & Hair Stylist
Next up is your hair and make up. You might decide to to this yourself, so fair play to you if you do. I did my own make up after having some lessons at home because where I eloped there was no one for miles to do my make up. You wont have that problem here in Ireland though as we are such a small country and its pretty easy to get around. Here is a list of my favourite hair and muas

I’ve always been a very visual, hands on person. I was fascinated with mark making and the process of creating whilst I studied Fine and Applied Arts at Uni. My career in make-up began initially as just a light hearted extension of learning after finishing my degree to blow off some steam before getting a “real job”. Very quickly I realised how much I loved the instant gratification of seeing a look come together, of chatting to someone and seeing how a little bit of make-up made them feel, yet still holding a brush, and working with colours and textures to create.
My style is very much on the natural end of the spectrum. I prefer skin to look real, healthy, and supple. Eyes and lips to be enhanced but “undone”, and overall, for a woman to look like herself.
Hi, I’m Stacey, the S.A.K. behind S.A.K.DESIGNS. I’ve been working as a makeup artist specialising in bridal makeup for over 10 years. I’m based in Co. Armagh and travel widely throughout Northern and Southern Ireland. My style of bridal makeup is best known as flawless, timeless, natural makeup. I want you to adore your bridal makeup and look and feel like the best version of yourself. I love to create beautiful skin that looks like skin and accentuate your features, not mask them.
“virtual bridal prep”
I have a one wedding per day policy and will devote the morning to your and your bridal party. I see my role as more than a makeup artist when it comes to bridal makeup – I love to ensure a stress-free environment for my bridal parties and am known for my calming effect on bridal households. Although I’ve been unable to do makeup at the moment I have been working with my brides to offer them virtual support and solutions throughout the pandemic including Virtual Bridal Prep – a zoom makeup lesson and bridal morning check in for brides opting to have a smaller ceremony or blessing ahead of their wedding date next year. I miss my brides so much and cannot wait to get the go ahead to get back to doing what I love! Love Stacey xx
Lets talk about locations. This is my absolute favourite part. Eloping is incredibly exciting and the best part about it is picking your location. I have a lot of amazing locations for you to choose from and here are just a few. The rest are secret spots that even some of the locals don’t know about and I am excited to show them in person. So first up is
I absolutely love taking couples to Dunluce Castle for their elopement ceremony. Seeing their faces when they see this place in person is always lovely. There is no doubt that this is one of the most magical locations you could possibly have your elopement at. Castle ruins in the background over looking the Atlantic ocean, hearing nothing but the sound of the waves crashing in against the rocks below while you say your vows to one another in total privacy.
This location is quite easy to access, but it does belong on private land and can not be accessed without permission. Luckily I am in touch with the kind farmer that owns the land and can help set you up with getting your elopement booked with in him. He requires a small fee for the use of his land and will personally take you down there himself in his four by four if you prefer not to walk it which is awesome!
This place is insanely magical. The views are unreal. It is quite possibly my favourite place to be in all of Northern Ireland. After ascending down quite a few steps it leads you onto the one of the best views you will see. There is a little rocky path leading onto the cliff top that brings you past the castle ruin and out to the cliff edge over looking the Atlantic sea and plenty of rugged cliff edges.
I would always recommend footwear that is easy to walk in for your outdoor adventure elopement, in this case, I would really recommend you wear good hiking footwear. The steps back up are not as fun as they are doing down, but don’t let that put you of. It is 100% worth it. You could spend a few hours here taking in the 180 views and and exploring whilst having your photos taken with a huge variety of stunning backdrops. This place is a must!
Dunseverick Castle is located near a path way from the Giants Causeway. Just when you thought you had seen all the castle ruins over looking the Atlantic sea with rugged cliff tops. This is an insanely beautiful location for your elopement wedding. Perfect if you are bringing along a few friends and family as its very accessible and easy to get too. If you are then hoping for a mini adventure, there is an incredible walk way with even more incredible views to follow along the causeway coast walk which you can access from here. Another location not to be missed.
Causeway coast and glens
The Causeway coast and glens is a two hour walk from Dunsevrick to The Giants Causeway. The views along the way are spectacular and perfect for your elopement portraits. You don’t need to walk the full two hours and back. There are amazing look outs the whole way. Perfect little spot to adventure to if you give yourself a little bite more time on your elopement day. Which is why I would always recommend not rushing your elopement in the space of a few hours. Allow yourself lots of time to explore all the beauty Ireland and Northern Ireland has to offer.
Ballintoy Habour is now famous for Game of Thrones. This has such a variation of backdrops that just keeps on giving. You get a 180 degree view of the surrounding coast. There is a popular walk from Whitepark bay to Ballintoy and it has some incredible views and sights to explore. The rock formations between the two are known as ‘The Park End’ one of Ireland’s most fierce waves, given their shape and positioning and make some some stunning elopement portraits. If you are thinking about having a micro wedding with 30 people and would love a venue that will cater for that, then here are some insanely beautiful venues to choose from
BELLE ISLE ESTATE
So I have mentioned some pretty amazing castle ruin locations for your outdoor elopement, but maybe you are hoping to have a small micro indoor castle wedding on a private island? if so, check out Belle Isle Castle, this venue is located in the Irish countryside of Co Fermanagh ( My home county ) right beside the beautiful lake. Imagine getting married in a Castle on a charming private island. its a magical location. The castle is the embodiment of romantic, old-world charm. You can choose to have your ceremony both indoors and outdoors among the tranquil gardens with the castle as your backdrop.
BANTRY HOUSE AND GARDEN
Bantry House and Garden – This place is insane. Its a incredible stately home located on the Wild Atlantic Way ( amazing drive by the way ) its overlooking Bantry Bay in the south west of Ireland. The inside is just as beautiful as the outside. I was blown away when I fist seen this place and I can not wait to visit here again. Although it may look mighty large, its perfect for small micro weddings of about 30 people. You have a great variation of backdrops to choose from for your wedding portraits and off course for your ceremony.
